In the Lochnagar area in the Highlands the Balmoral castle is an important landmark. Since 1848 this is the Scottish home of the Royal Family. When we were in this region looking for inspiration we came upon a smaller castle, where we discovered an impressive library of 8 meters high that swept us away.Hence came the idea to redraw the cupboard in a more acceptable size while maintaining the characteristic stately feel, classic molding and complementary ladder. Originally the library was in mahogany, but we were so in love with the piece we wanted to reinterpret it in oak.Of the ladder eventually only the first two or three sports are of actual use (otherwise you’ll end up with your head in the ceiling), yet we thought it important to maintain a certain length to further emphasize the grandness of the piece. The cupboard is entirely made of wood, including its back in wooden laths, while the lighting elements and ladder bar are of brass. The added Milano lamps can be moved and aimed for your comfort, while extendible display drawers are ideal for displaying art and photography books. The Balmore is created, molded and finished by hand in local workshops. This makes each one of the Balmore libraries a unique piece and an exhibit of true craftsmanship with a timeless appeal and of durable quality.
